Nancy Guthrie update today: A fresh twist has emerged in the ongoing search for Nancy Guthrie, with a new message sent to TMZ claiming the sender possesses video footage from what they describe as her final day. The latest communication has reignited questions surrounding earlier ransom notes and anonymous demands. While investigators have not verified the claims, the information has reportedly been shared with federal authorities, as per a report by TMZ.
Nancy Guthrie remains missing, and officials continue to treat the case as an active investigation.
What does the new note in the Nancy Guthrie case claim?
According to a report from TMZ, the outlet received another email from the same person who had previously contacted them regarding the disappearance of Savannah Guthrie's mother. TMZ said it authenticated the message by matching the sender's alias and an earlier Bitcoin address used in past communications.
The sender disputed reports suggesting investigators believed the individual behind the messages could be a woman, writing, "I am not the idiot who recently called in a tip about her burial site in Mexico."
The email also repeated earlier claims that more than one person was involved in the alleged kidnapping.
This time, however, the person introduced a new allegation. The message stated, "I have a phone stashed in a secure location guaranteeing both the information it stores and the safety of the phone."
The sender continued, "What it contains is my definition of delivering them on a silver platter, a short video of the main guy with nancy the day that was probably her last, pictures of both involved, names and addresses and age."
According to TMZ, the individual claimed the phone was hidden in a location that could be accessed by someone who knew where to look. The password, the sender said, would be provided in exchange for one Bitcoin.
TMZ responded publicly by requesting a single screenshot showing Nancy Guthrie in the alleged footage to help verify whether the claims have any basis in fact.
Who sent the latest message?
A report noted that TMZ forwarded the email to the FBI and sought additional proof from the sender. The latest communication follows earlier unverified ransom notes that surfaced shortly after Nancy Guthrie disappeared. NBC News, ABC News and CBS News previously reported that one message received during the early stages of the case claimed that she was dead.
Additional notes were reportedly sent to KOLD News, a CBS affiliate in Tucson, and to TMZ. One demanded millions of dollars in Bitcoin and included a deadline that eventually passed without resolution, as per a report by USA Today.
Why are investigators staying cautious?
The Pima County Sheriff's Department declined to comment on the latest claims, while the FBI stated that it does not discuss ongoing investigations.
Savannah Guthrie previously told NBC that her family believed two of the numerous notes received during the case may have been genuine.
"There are a lot of different notes, I think that came. And I think most of them, it's my understanding, are not real," Guthrie said. "But I believe the two notes that we received that we responded to, I tend to believe those were real."
Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen on the evening of January 31 after returning to her Tucson home following dinner with family. She was reported missing the following morning, prompting an investigation by local authorities and, later, the FBI. The newest claims remain unverified, and the search for Nancy Guthrie continues.
