The Maharashtra government has decided to accord veteran actor Nana Patekar a funeral with state honours following his death at the age of 75. The decision was announced by Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar, who cited Patekar’s contribution to Marathi theatre as well as Marathi and Hindi cinema.
Patekar died early Thursday, October 8, after suffering a cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa. He was found unconscious at his home and taken to Manipal Hospital, where doctors attempted to revive him with CPR for around 45 minutes. He was declared dead at about 5:20 am, according to Dr Shekhar Salkar of Manipal Hospital.
