What You Are Actually Going To See
Nalanda's ruins stretch across roughly 14 hectares of excavated monasteries, lecture halls, and stupas, the physical remains of an institution that housed up to 10,000 students at its peak between the 5th and 12th centuries. The site was a functioning university for nearly 700 years before Bakhtiyar Khilji's forces burned it in the late 12th century. What stands today is the excavated core, managed by the Archaeological Survey of India and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2016.
