Naked pub goers leave money behind bar to thank staff after abuse

A pair of naturists left pub regulars stunned when they popped in for dinner - completely naked. Neil Cox and Danielle Quiggan caused quite a stir when they went to the pub.

Now in a thank you to staff Neil, 34, and Danielle, 35, have since set up a crowdfunder to support the pub and have put some of their own money behind the bar so locals can have a party.

Writing online, the pair said: “We're Neil and Danielle, two naturists that live a mostly naked life and have spent a lot of time naked in more public places.

"There was a lovely pub that let us in recently, and has received a lot of press attention as a result of our visit there naked and a few (probably fake) TripAdvisor reviews. The owner sare trying to enjoy a rare holiday at the moment and we suspect both they and their team are finding the media attention a little stressful. However, throughout all of this they've continued to stand by their decision to allow us in.

"Some of the locals are organising a get-together in their favourite pub to demonstrate support. We'd like to show that we value and back the locals' gesture and put some money behind the bar as a thank you. Danielle and I have contributed £250 and are hoping that we'll be able to hit £500.” Neil’s wish has already been more than granted with more than £1,250 already raised. Donate here

Ofcom guidelines and advertising standards permit nudity where it is justified by the context'** Naturists Neil Cox and Danielle Quiggin. See SWNS story SWLNnaturists. Naturists who left pubgoers shocked when they went for a nude meal say they are "deeply saddened" by an online backlash. Neil Cox, 34, and Danielle Quiggin, 35, had a pint and a burger at the Railway in Burnham-on-Sea on Friday (2/6). They say they faced no problems on the day at the Somerset boozer - and staff were very friendly. But after discovering some negative comments online, the duo - who are not a couple - have spoken out. (Sebastian Roberts / SWNS)

Previously Neil said he contacted the pub ahead of their visit to inform staff they were naturists. Staff at the pub say they researched the rules on naturism and took the booking.

He said: “During our break away we were naked most of the time. Where I live there are shops, grocery stores and pubs where I go in regularly that accept I am a naturist. We sat in the corner of the pub and had our meal. People quickly went back to their drinks and got on with their day.

“After all two naked people sitting in a corner of a pub having a beer and burger quickly becomes boring. Several people came over to us whilst we were there to have a chat and ask questions or request a photo. We had checked with the pub first and got their permission to visit.”

Being naked in public is not an offence. The Crown Prosecution Service says: “In the absence of any sexual context and in relation to nudity where the person has no intention to cause alarm or distress it will normally be appropriate to take no action unless members of the public were actually caused harassment, alarm or distress.”

A spokesperson for the pub said: “We have received both negative and positive comments which we have taken on board, however naturism is legal within the UK and we pride ourselves on inclusivity and welcome everyone’s individuality and differences.”
