Now, for a little update from Planet Fashion: The circus has rolled into Paris for the final leg of fashion month. And while you await our catwalk coverage from the City of Light, check out our edit of the best fall/winter 2024 runway looks and street style from New York, London, and Milan.
Paris is of course the epicenter of global luxury fashion and what hits the catwalk here sets the tone for the trends and looks we'll all be lusting after next season. Speaking of lust, we feel compelled to highlight one of the most definitive (and talked about trends) to emerge from the fashion capital: Naked Fashion.
Leave it to Saint Laurent creative director Anthony Vaccarello — he of the overtly sensual, bordering on femme fatale design signature — to ignite the sexed-up fashion mood courtesy of a 48-look collection of ridiculously sheer looks (nipples out and proud). Served up in a smorgasbord of flesh tones by way of strapless bodice-style mini dresses, pencil skirts, ruched dresses, and pussy-bow blouses, all of which were created with pantyhose fabrics. In addition to bringing sexy back, the collection was also an obvious nod to the famed French house's latest exhibition — Sheer: The Diaphanous Creations of Yves Saint Laurent is now on view at the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris.
The sex fest also extended to the front row because wherever Vaccarello treads, his cool girl celeb ambassadors flock. Green-lighting the naked fashion trend were Olivia Wilde, Kate Moss (with mini-me daughter Mia Moss in toe), Zoë Kravitz, and Lily Collins (yep, Emily was in Paris) who rocked sheer pieces from Saint Laurent FW 2024 and showed some serious skin. "My job is to propose something that is not necessarily realistic. I wanted to feel controversy. Something that people love or hate," the designer told London's Financial Times after his nearly nude fashion show was unveiled.
Hot on Vaccarello's heels came the highly anticipated debut by Chemena Kamali at Chloé' which also made a play for naked dressing. Kamali, originally from Düsseldorf, cut her teeth as an intern at Chloé', and has worked under Phoebe Philo and Clare Waight Keller over her two-decade tenure at the house. In her newly minted role of creative director (she succeeds Gabriella Hearst) this was Kamali's moment and she friggin owned it. Chloé' F/W24 has been lauded as one of the hottest tickets of the week by the fashion pack. "Chloé's new creative director Chemena Kamali totally nailed it with her first collection for fall. She knows the uber-cool Chloé girl so well with her diaphanous girly layers and sheer, sexy whimsical pieces, juxtaposed with some tough leather and loads of the brand's signature It girl accessories," says New York-based fashion director and wardrobe consultant Sarah Meikle.
Inspired by the French house's 70s heyday era and vintage boho roots, there was a whimsy angelic-like vibe to Chloé' F/W 24 courtesy of plenty of sheer naked looks (and more nipples) which were showcased via floaty transparent dresses, frilly blouses, and see through lace camis. And for the die-hard Chloé girl, fresh twists on the brand's signature high-waisted jeans, tasseled leather, thigh-high pirate boots, and boho bags transported it from Woodstock to 2024. Also drawing the A-list crowd and fashion rock royalty, spotted in the Chloé FROW were Jerry Hall and daughter Georgia May Jagger accompanied by Ella Richards granddaughter of Rolling Stones legend Keith Richards, actress Sienna Miller, and iconic fashion model Pat Cleveland.
As for adding naked fashion looks to your wardrobe next season, we'll leave it to you to decide whether you love or hate the idea of wearing body-conscious see-through styles in the fall — but if sex sells, Saint Laurent and Chloé' have you covered.
