Nadiya Hussain says she felt pressured to become ‘palatable version of a Muslim’ in ‘broken’ TV industry

Nadiya Hussain has said she felt pressured to become a “palatable version of a Muslim” in order to succeed in television, as she described the industry as “broken”.

The 41-year-old rose to fame after winning the sixth series of The Great British Bake Off in 2015. She went on to front several BBC cookery shows, publish bestselling books, appear on The One Show, and bake a cake for Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday.
