Nabil Bentaleb hospitalised after former Tottenham midfielder falls ill in France

Former Tottenham midfielder Nabil Bentaleb has been taken to hospital in France after falling ill.

His current club Lille said that Bentaleb was “immediately taken care of and sent for hospitalisation” on Tuesday.

In an official statement released on Thursday morning, Lille added: “LOSC [Lille] accompanies Nabil as closely as possible during this ordeal and gives him all its support.”

Bentaleb came through the youth ranks at Spurs and made 66 appearances for the club before joining German side Schalke in 2017.

Spurs said on social media: “We’re sending you all our love and best wishes, Nabil. Everyone at the club is with you.”

Schalke said: “The thoughts of everyone at FC Schalke 04 are with Nabil.”

Bentaleb, who also had a brief loan spell at Newcastle in 2020, made 34 appearances for French side Lille this season and scored three goals.

He previously had a stint with Angers before moving to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy on a three-year contract last summer.

He has 52 caps and five goals for Algeria since making his senior international debut in 2014 and represented his country at the 2014 World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations in 2015, 2017 and 2023.

In a statement on social media, the Algerian Football Federation wished Bentaleb “a speedy recovery”.
