Mysuru police file case over ‘Chhota Pakistan’ comments

MYSURU: Mysuru district police have taken up a case against unidentified men for promoting enmity between different communities after a conversation among them went viral. Police have issued summons to a few suspects in connection with the video clip which is yet be verified. CM Basavaraj Bommai has asked police to look into the matter.

This follows after footage of a community gathered to celebrate a festival went viral in which two men are heard describing Kavalande, a village in Nanjangud taluk in Mysuru, as ‘Chhota Pakistan.’

Police said they are yet to identify the men and verify when the alleged incident took place. The 30-second footage shows a large gathering standing by the roadside.

Superintendent of police R Chethan told TOI that an FIR has been registered against unknown persons after a resident complained demanding action against those trying to sow communal discord.

Kavalande police have registered the FIR and investigation is in progress, he said.

The SP said based on preliminary information some of the suspects have been asked to appear before police to record their statements.

Kapilesh, member of city municipal council, Nanjangud, said, “We have filed a police complaint demanding the arrest of those who called Kavalande a ‘Chhota Pakistan’.”
