MYSURU: The Mysuru City Corporation has directed residents with water connections, who do not have water meters, to regularise their drinking water connection by installing a water meter, apart from paying the required cess, dues and deposit amount, within seven days of issuance of notice.
The MCC has asked residents to visit its office at the Vanivilas Water Supply Board in Yadavagiri on KRS Road, after purchasing a water meter, along with their records, to regularise their connections.
The MCC will disconnect water supply to households and establishments, as well as their UGD supply connections, and also collect hefty fines, if they fail to do so.
The civic body has told households, that in case they find that their water meters are not in a working condition, to regularise their connection, after purchasing new ones by March 31. The MCC will collect double the amount of water cess from April, if this is not done.
Meanwhile, following complaints of drinking water supply being disconnected to residents of Kukkarahalli, Chamaraja MLA L Nagendra visited the locality along with MCC officials on Friday.
He directed the civic body officials to immediately supply drinking water to residents. As the residents had allegedly not paid water cess, including the dues with penalty and interest amount, after drawing water, as well as preventing officials from installation of water meters from the last several years, the MCC disconnected the water supply to the locality.
Upon receiving the complaints from the public, the legislator visited the area, and appealed to residents to pay water cess, and asked them to allow the officials to install water meters. As per the law, it is mandatory for all residents to pay taxes for drawing water from the MCC water supply lines, he stated.
“As all are equal under the law, residents must allow the civic officials to perform their duty. Residents can pay their dues later,” he said.
