Mystery surrounds the death of a man found with critical injuries inside a car in Melbourne’s northwest.

The unidentified man was discovered on Vaucluse Boulevard in Taylors Hill at 11.30pm on Sunday.

Paramedics started to treat him but he couldn’t be saved.

Footage taken at the scene appears to show a large bullet hole through the windscreen of the black BMW.

An SES tent has been set up around the car which still has its lights on.

The homicide squad is investigating but police are yet to speak about the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A neighbour told Seven’s Sunrise they had never seen the car before and didn’t believe it to be owned by anyone who lives on the street.

Investigations are also thought to be underway into whether the death is linked to another incident involving a car about 500 metres away.

No arrests have been made.
