The reason behind road restrictions which have left some motorists bemused have been explained by a local council.
Restrictions have been in place at a busy Knowsley junction for the past few months “with little work activity” according to one Twitter user.
Urm asked Knowsley Council why this was so which prompted a reply from a spokesperson who issue an explanation of what is happening at the junction which can’t be seen by the “naked eye.”

Twitter user Urm, tagging in Knowsley Council and National Highways North West, asking: “Could anyone tell me why the junction of A5208 & A580, A580 & Moorgate Rd N have restrictions on please?
“It has been months with little work activity apparent.”
Responding to the twitter user’s question, a spokesperson for Knowsley Council said the reason behind the restrictions was the activity of robots repairing gas leaks.
The spokesperson said: “Our street works inspector has informed us that the contractor has been using a robot in the gas pipes to repair leaks and this doesn’t need human interaction as much as conventional works.
“This is why it may seem as there is nothing happening to the naked eye.”
According to One Network, which maps roadworks across the UK, the roadworks being carried out involves a lane closure and is expected to continue until December.
