A beachgoer was left stunned after a strange mystery object that looked like a human leg washed up on shore.
The woman was enjoying a day on Magnetic Island off the coast of Queensland in Australia when the strange-looking appendage appeared on the sand.
She shared a video of the "disgusting" find on her TikTok, where online sleuths began working to identify what the weird object was.
Thousands of users commented on the video, which the woman captioned: "What the f*** is that?"
In the clip, she puts the "leg" beside her own to show just how massive it is.
While some insisted it was a human arm or leg, others revealed what they thought it likely was.
In a follow-up video, she wrote: "With the help of TikTok and marine biologists, I think we have figured out what that weird animal thing is."
“It’s a whale d*** and apparently the males fight and they bite each other’s things off and then they just wash up on beaches all around the world.”
Marine biologist Dr Vanessa Pirotta agreed it's likely the object once belonged to a whale but cautioned they cannot be certain without seeing it up close.
She added: “Where this unidentified object was found is currently where there are a lot of humpback whales, they’re there to breed and have their young."
The internet detectives may have been right about where the appendage originated, but their theory about it being torn off by another whale is probably incorrect, Dr Pirotta explained.
She said: “The reason being, well, I’ve not actually heard of this theory before but these whales don’t have any teeth at all.
“Rather, they have long hairlike strands called baleen, and to bite another male whale’s penis off is something I’ve never heard of.
“Could something else have bitten this off, such as a killer whale?”
At the end of September, the remains of a mysterious faceless sea beast washed up on a British beach.
The hairy eight-foot carcass was found just before high tide by Whitby business owner Samantha Murphy in Sandsend, North Yorkshire.
She added she was baffled by what the bizarre dead beast could be and was sickened by its stench.
She said: “I was walking with my two boys and partner collecting sea treasures when we saw it.
"At first I had no idea at all what it was, it looked like horse hair, and had a long bit of flesh which I thought was like a horse’s tail.
"When I pushed on it, it was definitely blubbery - like bouncy, and the bone threw me off, no horse has a bone that size.
"I feel sick remembering the stench. I can't compare it to anything as I've never seen anything like it."
