A vintage car has been found torched and abandoned near a Glasgow beauty spot.
Images sent to the Record show the motor, believed to be a Ford Escort or Ford Sierra from the late 80s, completely burnt out. The car's tyres have dissolved in the inferno, with the wheels melting into the road. Only the scorched shells of the front seats and steering wheel are left behind from the blaze.
Depending on their age, vintage Fords can fetch modest sums on the second-hand market. Recent listings on Auto Trader show a 1983 five-door Escort 1.3L on sale for £6,995.
More specialised models, such as the high-performance Turbo and Cosworth models, are prized among car collectors and can fetch in excess of £40,000.
The car was reported to Glasgow City Council on Monday October 10 after being found by locals in the west end of the city, at the entrance to Dawsholm Park and close to Dawsholm Recycling Centre.
Despite having no tyres or wheels, Glasgow city council slapped a warning notice on the motor informing the owner that the car will be uplifted if it isn't removed. The notice - a Section 3(1) notice under the Refuse Disposal Act - gives the authority the power to lift the motor and dispose of the remains.
Glasgow City Council say the incident was reported to Police Scotland. Local authority bosses say they will have the hatchback uplifted shortly, however the hunt is still on to find the owner.
It is unclear how the car caught fire.
A Glasgow City Council spokesperson said: "The burnt out vehicle was reported to us on October 10 and the removal notice was placed on the vehicle on the 11th. "
They added: "We do not have the power to remove burnt out vehicles immediately and have to wait at least 24 hours from posting a removal notice before any such vehicle can be taken away. Police are aware of the incident."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of an abandoned vehicle at Dalsholm Road in Glasgow during the morning of Tuesday, 11 October.
“The local authority is aware.”
