Mysterious mounds of cremated human remains found south of Las Vegas

Approximately 70 piles of cremated human remains were found scattered in the Nevada desert near Searchlight, about 50 miles south of Las Vegas. The remains were discovered on August 26, 2025, by a passerby who alerted local authorities. Reports say the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has since confirmed the remains are human and is actively investigating the incident.

The remains, which according to reports included “pulverized bone,” were found just off U.S. Highway 95, a remote area surrounded by rugged hills and desert vegetation. Photographs obtained by local news outlets show clusters of small gray ash piles, some near cacti and other desert flora. The BLM is collaborating with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in the investigation. As of now, no charges have been filed, and authorities have not disclosed the source or origin of the remains.
