  • Mycopunk launches on PS5 October 20, 2026, arriving free day-one in both PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium.

  • The release coincides with the shooter's jump out of Steam early access into its full 1.0 version.
  • Of the three PlayStation classics also headed to PS Plus Premium in 2026, one — Mega Man X: Command Mission — already arrived on September 15, and Dino Crisis 2 is a PlayStation 1 title, not a PS2 one as often described.

A Release Date Finally Locks In

Sony and Devolver Digital have pinned down the console arrival of one of this autumn's most-watched PlayStation Plus additions. Push Square confirms that Mycopunk, the four-player cooperative shooter built by Pigeons at Play, reaches PS5 on October 20, 2026, and lands in both the Extra and Premium tiers of the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog the same day, at no added cost to subscribers.

Sony first flagged the console version during a State of Play broadcast in early September, telling viewers the title would eventually join the Extra and Premium libraries without naming an exact date. That blank has now been filled in: a fresh trailer from Devolver spells out October 20 as the day Mycopunk simultaneously leaves PC early access, hits version 1.0, and debuts on consoles. The shooter first appeared on Steam in July 2025, per LEVEL UP's reporting, meaning console players will have waited well over a year for their shot at it.

Robots, Fungus, and a Corporation That May Have Misfiled Your Taxes

Players step into a crew of cast-off robots contracted by a company called SAXON, sent to contain a fungal outbreak consuming an entire planet. Missions can be run alone or with up to three squadmates, and the game's signature hook is its build system: weapons and gear snap together on a customizable grid, letting a crew pair conventional sci-fi arms with scavenged hardware-store tools into deliberately ridiculous loadouts. The chaos cuts both ways — a hands-on preview from Gaming Trend notes that enemies who lose limbs or weapons in battle can have those parts scooped up and reused by other foes nearby, turning fights into an escalating scramble for scrap.

A Hit in Early Access — Just Ask Three Different Outlets

Every outlet covering the announcement agrees Mycopunk's time in early access went well, though the exact numbers shift depending on who's counting. PlayStation LifeStyle reports a "Very Positive" Steam score built on close to 3,000 reviews; Gamerant puts the approval figure at 91 percent; and LEVEL UP cites a slightly more conservative 88 percent. Checking Steam's live listing this week shows a 91 percent rating across nearly 3,000 reviews — a number that lines up closely with Gamerant's figure and PlayStation LifeStyle's review count, while sitting several points above LEVEL UP's. Either way, the game sits comfortably inside Steam's "Very Positive" band heading into its console debut.

The Classics Lineup — And a Correction Worth Flagging

Mycopunk wasn't the only addition teased at that September broadcast. PSU's coverage confirms three older Capcom and Insomniac titles are joining the Premium classics catalog: Mega Man X: Command Mission, Dino Crisis 2, and the original Ratchet & Clank. Here's where it's worth pausing: Dino Crisis 2 first launched on the original PlayStation in 2000, not the PS2, so grouping all three under one console generation overstates the case — only Command Mission (2004) and Ratchet & Clank (2002) are genuine PS2-era games. It's also worth noting that Command Mission isn't still pending: Sony's own PlayStation Blog confirms it already joined Premium on September 15, ahead of Mycopunk's own launch. Dino Crisis 2 and Ratchet & Clank remain undated beyond a general "sometime in 2026" window.

The day-one placement fits a strategy Sony has described publicly. PlayStation's vice president of global services, Nick Maguire, told GameFile — as Push Square reported — that the company aims for "four or five independent day-and-date titles" a year to round out a catalog built mainly from older releases, a deliberately narrower approach than Xbox Game Pass's day-one first-party model.

What's Still to Come This Month

Mycopunk is arriving as a standalone reveal precisely because of its day-one status; the rest of October's Game Catalog additions won't surface until closer to mid-month. Gamerant notes the full slate is expected around October 14, with roughly ten titles typically rotating into Extra and Premium each cycle — meaning this is just the opening entry in a longer list still to come.

For anyone already paying for Extra or Premium, the plan is simple: no pre-order, purchase, or plan upgrade is needed. The 1.0 build downloads straight to a PS5 the moment it goes live on October 20.
