Mychal Thompson takes strong stance on Klay Thompson’s future

For Golden State Warriors fans, Klay Thompson‘s contract situation is a hot topic. Both sides appear to be some way apart in negotiations. According to Shams Charania, it’s increasingly likely that Thompson will enter free agency next summer.

Warriors fans experienced a similar situation last season, when Draymond Green was on an expiring contract and rumors swirled regarding his future.

However, Mychal Thompson appears confident his son will remain in the Bay Area. On Oct. 23, the former NBA star took to X to share his thoughts on the reporting surrounding Thompson’s future with the Warriors.

“Klay ain goin nowhere. … He’s a Dub. …,” Thompson wrote.

Golden State allowed Green to play out the final year of his deal before signing him to a new contract. It’s likely the franchise follows a similar blueprint with Thompson. After all, the veteran sharpshooter only has one full NBA season under his belt since returning from a two-year injury absence.

Thompson rediscovered his perimeter shooting but has looked a step slow on the defensive end. However, with another summer in the books and his injuries a thing of the past, Thompson could return to an elite level on the defensive end of the floor. If he can prove he’s still one of the best players in the league, there should be no doubt about his future with the Warriors.

Joe Lacob has previously discussed his desire to keep Golden State’s championship core intact, and Thompson is an integral piece of that. The Warriors front office is likely trying to evaluate their star’s value before extending an offer at the end of the upcoming season.
