A dad who discovered his wife had cheated on him thanks to a DNA test has said he tried to take revenge and cut his family out of his life - but it backfired and left him devastated.
The anonymous man said he used to spend 2-3 months abroad a year for his job which often meant leaving his wife and their two-year-old son at home by themselves. However, during one trip abroad, he received a phone call from his wife telling him that she was pregnant with their second child.
A couple of years later, the man was able to stop travelling for his job and could spend more time with his two sons, but was left feeling suspicious as his younger son didn't "look anything like" him as he grew older.
After discovering a letter his friend had written to his wife confessing his attraction to her, the dad began to see similarities between his youngest son and his friend, so had two DNA tests done - which confirmed the boy was not his biological son at all.
In a heartbreaking post on Quora, the man said: "I was lost. Never in my wildest dreams could I imagine this would happen to me. I asked my wife to tell me the truth, and with the evidence at hand, she couldn't deny it anymore and admitted to having an affair with my friend when I was gone.
"My world collapsed. I walked away broken. I wandered for a month here and there thinking about what I did wrong and for what purpose I was living."
The man then confessed to wanting to take "revenge" against his wife and decided to file for divorce, demanding that he be allowed custody of their eldest child, while the youngest son would stay with his mum.
However, the man's friend - whom he gave the fake name Ken in his post - failed to visit his son or support him in any way, and the dad soon realised the flaw in his revenge plot - he missed the boy too much to stay away from him.
He added: "I thought I would feel better after I had my revenge. I did not. When my selfishness died down, I really missed my younger son and the time we were together."
As the man and his wife were finalising their divorce, the man dropped by his old house to visit the younger boy and was left "in tears" when he was greeted with a hug and asked when he'd be coming home.
The dad then realised that it didn't matter if the boy was his biological son or not, as he loved him too much to stay away and saw him as his son regardless.
"I just need my children to be happy," he explained, "It didn't matter if he was my biological child or not. Our bond was real and strong. I love him, and he loves me. That's all that matters. I grew up with the blessing and love of my parents. Why did I let my son suffer because of the mistake he didn't make?"
To end his post, the man said he and his wife now live under the same roof as "roommates" rather than a married couple, and they both support their children even though they are no longer romantically involved.
He said: "I talked to Ken. We agreed the boy is MY son and he had to stay away from him for the rest of his life. The boys are growing fast, happy, and loved. I'm glad I got them in my life. This fatherhood is something I wouldn't trade the world for.
"My wife and I are staying under the same roof like roommates. We're staying friends and I sincerely hope things turn out better for her. After all, she's still the mother of my kids and no one is happy to see their mum struggle."
