The BBC's My Unique B&B sees master craftsman Simon Parfett and his dedicated teams of professionals, help people with small spaces or gorgeous gardens generate extra income by creating extraordinary bed and breakfast getaways. Tuesday's episode was no different, seeing Simon head to Pembrokeshire to embark on one of his most ambitious projects yet.
In south west Wales, Toby and his daughter Islay had the dream to create a land-locked submarine B&B from a warship sonar hull. Single dad Toby had already created some weird and wonderful spaces on his campsite, but only with Simon's expert help could he turn his biggest idea yet into reality.
As ever, Simon's top team of tradespeople were integral to making the scrap hull into a dream Welsh getaway destination. Battling the hull's lack of straight lines or corners, carpenter Ian was vital in making custom made furniture which could fit into the unique space. Meanwhile, interior supremo Zoe had the unenviable task of making what was essentially waste material, a warm and inviting B&B - even transforming oxygen canisters decorative torpedoes.
Pembrokeshire is famous for its 180 miles of stunning coastlines, abundant marine wildlife and breath-taking countryside, which attracted Toby to Tenby after a career spent in London. Spending his life's savings on a campsite, his set to work making each B&B pod one of a kind, with one looking like a UFO and another a real converted jet.
Before the team made a start, Simon was introduced to the new project: "It's sort of the hull from a HMS destroyer turned upside down and put underground," Islay said to as he laughed in disbelief.
The renovation took just three weeks to go from an empty shell half buried on Toby's campsite, to a sleek, modern and above all character-filled B&B.
Talking to the proud new owners of a subterranean getaway, Simon asked how much Toby would be charging per night, he said: "With the quality of this, probably £175, maybe £185," adding potential customers will go "oh my god there's a submarine, we've got to stay there!"
During the process, Simon took Toby and Islay to The Hiveaway, a beehive-inspired B&B overlooking the Teifi Valley in West Wales for inspiration. Their off-grid wooden cabin used honeycomb interiors and almost everything had either been hand-built by owners Nick and Lauren or reclaimed.
