'My toddler forgot how to crawl and talk overnight - now she's locked in her body'

For the first two years of her life, Ruby Pollard was a perfectly healthy little girl. She could crawl, use her hands and say words like ‘mama’ and ‘papa’.

Overnight, the milestones she had reached were suddenly gone. Ruby could no longer babble, crawl or sit up by herself. Her mum, Sandra Gamble, knew something wasn’t right.

It took years for the mum-of-two to discover what was wrong with her baby. Health visitors initially thought Ruby had autism, but the reality was something far worse. Ruby had Rett syndrome.
