'My relative is missing a family wedding over my firm dog rule - I feel so guilty'

While you'd imagine that a wedding will be attended by your closest friends and family, one woman is putting her foot down about one relative's attendance.

The house-proud woman is refusing to allow her relative - who is staying at her home - to attend a family wedding as they'll be leaving their untrained dog alone.

Taking to popular forum site Reddit, the anonymous woman explained that she was fearful to leave the dog - who isn't house-trained - would ruin her new carpets if left unattended.

Seeking advice for the issue, the Reddit user questioned: "Would you allow a relative to stay if their dog wasn't house trained?"

She went on: "I had invited a relative to stay with us for a family wedding. He accepted but then told me his dog isn't housetrained.

"To be clear, we have dogs and are normally happy to have family bring their pets too but our dogs are all fully trained.

"All our carpets are new - less than a month old - and the house is open plan so it's impossible to contain his dog while he is here.

"I've said he can't bring the dog but it looks like that will mean he misses the wedding so I feel guilty," he added.

Since sharing her concerns, the woman's post has raked in over 120 comments to date - where people assured the Mumsnet user that she shouldn't feel 'guilty'.

Taking to the comment section, one person wrote: "I have three dogs - I absolutely love dogs - but no way would I want a dog who isn't house trained staying at my house. What a total nightmare that would be."

Meanwhile, someone else said: "Nope-I'm a dog owner and definitely not!!"

A third person penned: "I wouldn't allow the dog to come, housetrained or not. Your relative needs to make other arrangements or miss the wedding."

Maybe they could use the time to actually train the dog," they suggested.
