'My pal told me to return gifts I bought her baby - the colour didn't suit her'

A woman was left stunned after her friend told her to return the baby gifts she got her because they didn't suit the newborn.

The anonymous woman explained that she gifted her friend who had just had a baby some clothes.

"It was like a T-shirt and joggers set thing that I got in a small independent shop," she said in her post to Mumsnet.

One of the items was a really pale pink and the other was a light yellow.

But her friend was less than impressed with the clothes and was quick to text her to tell her so.

Instead of thanking her for the thoughtful gift, which the woman admitted was not cheap, her pal told her the "colours weren't right" and asked if she could return it.

The woman was stunned and said she 'would never have dreamed of making such a comment'.

"I had some really unusual colours but I smiled, said thank you and the kids wore them as I was grateful to receive gifts," she said.

She's concluded her post by asking users where she has a right to feel offended.

The majority of Mumsnet users were horrified by the woman's rude reaction and a few others shared how they would respond to the text.

"'No problem if you return them I’ll get them refunded,'" suggested one person.

Another added: "She’s not a friend! Sorry, she was so rude to you but I think you’ve learnt your lesson now."

"I got a few sets of baby clothes that weren’t to my taste," added a third. "I wouldn’t have dreamed of saying anything other than thank you. And they still got worn given that a small baby doesn’t really have an opinion on these things."

A few people said they wouldn't let the reason get to them, as one person said: "I would rather something told me they didn’t like and I swapped for something else than they fake pretend they like and just dump in charity."
