London is home for me — I was born in Hackney but lived in many places around the city before returning in my early teens to live at my grandma’s. I still live in Hackney with my partner.
Favourite hotel?
I rarely stay at hotels here but I did once visit a friend staying at The Standard. The room was beautiful. I also love to go up to their roof for a drink at Sweeties. It has some scenic views over London and a really relaxed vibe.
What was your first job?
My first solid job was in a restaurant as a runner serving loads of small plates. I am quite clumsy, so it was a real challenge. I once nearly dropped a pizza on a customer.
What’s the best meal you’ve had?
My usual go-to is Caribbean food, but I recently visited Via Emilia by Food Roots, which my partner introduced me to. It’s a lively little restaurant with authentic Italian classics and a great wine menu. One of the best things I tasted was the gnocco frito bread paired with their cured meats — mind-blowing.
Favourite shop?
I have always seen it as important to support my local community and the many independent businesses which demonstrate what it means to share the love. I love Evergreen & Outrageous in Stoke Newington. I used to pass this place every day when I lived off Kynaston Road and it’s a really good place to get high quality, beautiful flowers at an affordable price. You can tell that the team puts lots of care into the flower arrangements.
If you could buy any building in London and live there, which would it be?
The Sky Garden and turn it into an open-plan flat. I love the idea of waking up in nature, but with a view of the city. Probably not possible but one can dream.
What do you collect?
Vintage sportswear pieces. My favourite item is a Looney Tunes cardigan that I found in Milan.
Most iconic Londoner in history?
Adele, David Beckham, Frank Crichlow, Elton John, Sade, Stormzy, Mary Seacole — the list could go on. There are so many iconic Londoners!
Where do you go to let your hair down?
I love Hackney Empire — it has been a great venue within the community for decades. I used to perform there with my school as a kid. I think they have always been great at providing a diverse programme which invites all people to attend.
Who do you call to have fun?
My best friend Tolu. We have known each other since school, so we are completely on the same wavelength when it comes to going out. We both love dancing.
What’s your London secret?
Spilling the secret here, but I love the old railway walk [Parkland Walk] from Finsbury Park up to Highgate. In a city, it’s always nice to walk through green — almost like a reset.
What are you up to at the moment for work?
I a m working towards presenting my AW23 collection at London Fashion Week in February. Who is your hero? My mum — she is always coming up with wise seeds of knowledge, particularly in difficult times, and she has always taught me the value of hard work.
