A woman is filing for divorce after her husband gave her beloved cat away without permission while she was on holiday.
She adopted her cat Benji two years ago as a way of coping with the loss of her father and she immediately fell in love with the pet.
After adopting him she started to believe the cat was the reincarnation of her dad as she felt a deeper bond with him than him just being a pet.
So she was absolutely distraught when she came back from a holiday to find her husband had given the cat away and she is now filing for a divorce.
In her Reddit post, the woman, who remained anonymous, wrote: "I rescued him when he was so small he fit in the palm of my hand and have had him for two years. This may sound crazy to some, but I really believe Benji is the reincarnation of my dad. When I look into his eyes, I feel something more than a cat.
"My husband thinks this is strange and unhealthy. He says my bond with the cat freaks him out, and makes him uncomfortable that I truly believe he has my dad's soul."
When she returned from her holiday with her mum and sister she became concerned after her husband said the cat was staying with a friend who he works with.
"So I called the coworker asking for my cat back, and he tells me my husband gave him away fair and square and he won't be returning my cat! My husband had no right, the cat has always been only mine," she wrote.
"I am at a loss right now. Benji has never been through anything like this and I can only imagine the stress he must be feeling right now. I know I sure am."
In an updated post she went onto say that she filed a police report in a bid to get her cat back, but when she spoke to the coworker's wife about what was going on - the wife had no idea.
Then the husband revealed the cat had never been with the coworker and was just at a local shelter.
"I immediately tracked the shelter down to retrieve my boy, I had all my documents needed to prove he is mine, and he has a microchip. I took him straight to my sisters house, where I will also be staying for the time being," she said.
"My sister had been through divorce and has remarried, so she will help me get all my ducks in a row and prepare to file for divorce.
"I haven't been home or seen my husband since I left for the shelter. My family has supported me in my decisions and they are all willing to do whatever it takes to help me when I may need them."
She confirmed that her cat is back with her and safe.
In response, many were shocked at the husband's actions and were supportive of the woman's ordeal.
One person wrote: "Yeah, it's baffling that he put enough thought into his plan to ensure the coworker would lie and cover up for him, but didn't seem to realise that it was inevitable that this situation would end up completely destroying his marriage."
While another stated: "If I was the co-worker's wife, I would also be reconsidering my marriage."
