'My friend held a naked party at my house - he doesn't get why I'm annoyed'

A woman has been left conflicted after her friend threw a naked pool party at her home without first getting permission, and couldn't understand why this wouldn't be okay.

The woman, who is originally from Canada but now lives in the US state of Arizona, says she returns to her home country every few months for a couple of weeks at a time.

When she does so, she claims she'll usually ask her pal Bill (not his real name) to housesit, trusting him to take good care of her home in her absence.

Until recently, Bill, 28, has always been respectful when staying at the house and asked permission some time ago to have friends over or host a party. She didn't mind about this at all, having never seen any damage, but then things took an awkward turn.

As things turned out, she ended up returning home a little early from her trip and texted Bill to let him know. She was surprised when he didn't respond, which was unlike him, but then she opened her home security camera feed.

Taking to Reddit, the anonymous woman recalled: "I was greeted to an eyeful of naked strangers milling around my yard, swimming, soaking, and drinking. Well, that explains no response from Bill, no pocket to put his phone in. I rolled up, walked through to the backyard, and told Bill to clear the party out".

Bill was apparently a bit confused by her reaction, as she'd already given him permission to host parties, making the naked gathering perfectly acceptable in his eyes.

The poster - who goes by the username u/nekkidpoolparty - continued: "He said he understood if I wanted people to get out of there so I could go to bed or something but to give him a little time to let everyone finish their drinks and food, say their goodbyes, etc. I told him unless people were going to put on some clothes and stay in them, they had to leave immediately".

Bill chose not to stick around after the party dispersed, driving himself home. He has remained "frosty" with the poster ever since, being completely unable to see why she hadn't been okay with the surprise naked party guests.

She explained: "His side is that he’s always been careful to make sure nothing in my place ever gets broken or dirtied and that he’s been an excellent caretaker, so simply put he’s confused as to why I was annoyed. As for me, I didn’t want to see a bunch of strangers’ junk, not to mention their asses parked on my patio furniture and barstools".

On reflection, the poster now worries that she's being "uptight" about the situation, however, many of her fellow Reddit users have backed her up, expressing the importance of having boundaries with friends.

One person wrote: "It’s also poor nudist etiquette to sit bare butt on anything. Most carry a small towel. Either way, totally uncool of him to decide your home is his personal nude resort. As a nudist, I would have asked if she was cool with nude gatherings and explained it so it’s clear that it’s not an orgy".

Another commented: "Even if they are using towels, doing it without asking is disrespectful and rude. It would be like inviting a dog over without permission. Theoretically, nothing is wrong with that, not even allergies because it's outside and a pool, but you should still ask first".
