NEW DELHI: Honest and yet modest can best define the celebrated Mirabai Chanu, who buried the ghost of Rio 2016 in Tokyo last year, when she woke India up with her silver medal on the opening day of the Olympics. If she 'froze' in Rio 2016 with three failed clean-and-jerk attempts, Mira 'rose' to the occasion in Tokyo. A year on, she is ready for her onward journey, to defend her 2018 Commonwealth Games (CWG) gold at Birmingham 2022.
CWG has traditionally been a happy hunting ground for lifters from India, and Mira has no qualms about admitting that, even when asked if it is because of the absence of weightlifting powerhouses China and Korea.
