A person who recently celebrated their birthday was reportedly left dismayed after their family neglected to invite them to their own surprise party.
According to this individual, their parents "just forgot" to invite them along to the party, and ended up throwing what was essentially just a party for their friends, not for them.
To make matters even more uncomfortable, their friends had naturally assumed they would come along after their shift finished at 6pm and were therefore left utterly confused when they didn't turn up.
They didn't return until 10:30pm that evening, however, by which point the cake had already been cut.
Taking to Reddit, the disappointed person explained that their parents had thrown the party after gifting them "a wrapper because they liked the gift so much they had it".
They wrote: "My gift was a wrapper!!! I was disgusted and let them know. I joked about it to others so the shame made them decide to have a do-over.
"They arranged a birthday party for me. They decorated the house, cooked a feast of foods, had a BBQ, and even decorated the garden. It was amazing!! They just forgot to invite me to it.
"They had a party for my friends basically. I had to work that evening, and after I went to a bar. I was too tired to go out dancing so went home, only to find that there was a full-blown party of my friends in my garden and house for my birthday, without me. They had even cut the birthday cake."
Many fellow Reddit users were left appalled at the parents' cruel behaviour, with one person admitting they couldn't help but "angry laugh" at such an obvious display of narcissism.
The original poster reassured them that it was absolutely fine for them to laugh at what they agreed was such a "f****** ridiculous" situation.
Another person sympathised: "As someone whose mother had a fake wedding 'for me' the night before my real wedding (and I was not invited)… I feel your pain.
"She didn't pay for my wedding, but her fake wedding reportedly had an ice sculpture and fire dancers. She even wore white."
A third commented: "You are so amazing for becoming a far better person than all of them put together!"
