Spain captain Rodri has backtracked on his comments branding Scotland's tactics as "rubbish".
After Scotland's 2-0 triumph over Spain at Hampden in March, the Manchester City midfielder moaned about the "rubbish" tactics utilised.
However, he insists he was not trying to offend as he offered his "100 percent respect" for Steve Clarke's side after victory in Seville.
Previously, Rodri had said: “It’s the way they play. You have to respect at the end but for me it’s a bit rubbish because it’s always wasting time. They provoke you and they always fall.
“This for me is not football. For the speed of the sport you have to move on, but the referee has to take part of this and he says nothing.
“It was frustrating because we want to win and it’s difficult because they waste time, waste time. But it is what it is. They have their weapons and we have our weapons and we will learn for the next time.”
And asked if the frosty reception from the Tartan Army in Seville affected him - as he was booed every time he touched the ball - he told BBC: "No, it didn't. But I just want to come here to state that, of course I didn't mean that.
"Just because my English isn't very good. I have 100 per cent respect for them. That's why they are first in the group. I always respect the other teams.
"The weapon they use I never criticize that. As I told you most of them are teammates in the Premier League, so respect for Scotland, they are first in the table.
"I just said when you use these kind of tricks in football, like wasting time and provoking sometimes, I don't support this kind of acting. I didn't say that Scotland is like this, it's when you use that, never mind the team.
"But I just want to clarify that because of my respect for the Scottish team. And now we have a new game against Norway, we have to give it a last push and if we do it we qualify."
