Our home should be our sanctuary, where we let go of all the stresses of the day and unwind in our own space. However, sometimes we get lumped with difficult neighbours who can cause serious tensions, whether it's petty arguments over a bush that needs trimming or angry spats about parking spots.
One man has been left taken aback after catching his elderly neighbour trying to divert his post back to the delivery depot, and revealed that it's not the first time he's had a run-in with the woman. The disgruntled complainant has had enough of the neighbour's 'odd' behaviour and 'feels sorry for her husband'.
Taking to Reddit to share their woes, the resident, named Jonathan, explained: "Today a package was scheduled to be delivered to my apartment and I set it to not require a signature to make things easier for the DHL driver.
"I'm getting ready for work when I hear what sounds like a truck pull up and stop in front of my apartment. Not wanting to be that guy that opens the door as the driver approached I just wait sitting at my computer desk.
"I hear some people talking so I look at the window to see my neighbor [sic] talking to the DHL driver. Thinking maybe he already dropped my package off I go open my front door but no package is left.
"The driver is still there talking to her and I'm outside now so I figure I'll walk out and just grab it from him. I walk towards them and when he makes eye contact with me I ask if he has a package for Jonathan.
"He says yes and the woman goes 'Ooooh I thought you said 468! Not 466!' Then she balls her fist and raises it to her chin in a 'why I oughta' manner".
Baffled by the interaction, the man added: "It was a bit of an odd situation because this man was just trying to do his job and she intercepted him then tried to tell him he had to go the other way when he clearly did not".
As the story unfolded, Jonathan recounted another instance where his elderly neighbour became difficult: "My only other run-in with her was when she found out I was renting a garage in our lot. She got frustrated and asked if I would share my garage space with her. I said I didn't have room.
"She offered to pay for part of it but I doubled down and said sorry I park my car in there and its a very tight fit. I don't use it for storage. She then got weird asking why I cant just park on the street like everyone else.
"Then when her husband stopped her she started mumbling about how she is still owed a garage but the front office wont give her one.
"So now twice after odd run-ins with her she goes on about how she is owed something. First she is owed a garage when there are PLENTY to rent. Now she's owed a package that likely will never come".
Plenty of people sympathised with Jonathan, and offered advice on what to do next. One Reddit commenter said: "Can you get packages delivered to you at work or a friend's house? If not, you may have to put special delivery instructions warning about her when you order things".
Another added: "Absolutely be that guy, my neighbour literally tells delivery workers that our deliveries are for her if we don't catch them. people will do crazy things".
One social media user offered a different view, saying: "Just an FYI memory issues sometimes come in many forms and they are not limited to night time. Argumentative and confusion are signs. If you do get a chance to see her husband you might take him aside and mention it".
