'My brother-in-law named his dog after me - I want to get revenge with a pig'

Choosing a name for your dog can be tricky, and often you find inspiration in the most unusual places.

One man has stolen his sister-in-law's name for his new puppy, and she isn't happy about it - in fact, she wants to name a pig after him in return.

The woman was so furious that she took to Mumsnet to rant about her brother-in-law and her husband, who said she was being "too sensitive".

In the post, she wrote: "[My] brother-in-law retired early at 50 about a year ago and his son and his wife decided to get a dog. This was about a month ago.

"They've named the dog the same name as mine and I found it very insulting.

"My [husband] said they have always loved my name and this is why they have done [it].

"When we met last week at a wedding I said to them they could have picked another name out of the millions, they just smiled and said it was a lovely name.

"They all had smirks on their faces. My children [laughed] initially but they get it and told me to ignore it.

"I'm seriously embarrassed, hurt and fear others finding out about this and mocking me."

The woman was so full of rage, she almost got revenge in a rather hilarious way.

In an updated comment, she said: "I was looking at adopting a pig online and naming that pig my brother-in-law's name but had second thoughts about it as this will make the situation worse."

She added: "As I type I'm getting angry and hoping the dog poo's all over their new sofa suit that is made from fabric and not leather and won't be easy to clean as it's white.

"They keep a very clean house like us and I know that will hurt them, I hope."

Mumsnet users were divided in the comments section, with many empathising with her anger.

"I would find that insulting. The smirking suggests they're looking for a reaction though so probably best to ignore and take the high road," someone said.

Others claimed it was none of her business and said she needed to "grow up".

One person wrote: "They gave the dog your name. So what? You don't own it and there's not a thing you can do about it so just let it go."

"I think you're taking it way too personally," another agreed.

Some people said she should take the gesture as a compliment.

"I don't get why it's a big deal," a user commented.

"People don't name their dogs with names they hate, it's names they like and dogs are very much (in most cases) loved and part of the family. I've never understood why people get so upset about it."

Though one person had a clever tactic for her.

"I'd make it my mission in life to make the dog my best friend. Lots of treats and toys. Love bomb it, basically. It'll take the BILs power out of the interaction," they said.
