MV Electrosystems makes a strong debut with 22% premium. Should investors book profits or stay invested?

MV Electrosystems made a robust debut on Dalal Street on Thursday, August 6, with its shares listing at a premium of over 22% against the IPO issue price. Following the strong debut, market experts believe investors may consider a balanced approach: booking partial profits and holding the remaining shares with a stop-loss at Rs 470.

The stock debuted at Rs 520 on the NSE, delivering gains of 22.4% over the issue price of Rs 425 per share. On the BSE, shares opened at Rs 519, marking a 22.1% listing premium.

The listing performance was broadly in line with grey market expectations. Ahead of the debut, MV Electrosystems shares were trading at a Grey Market Premium (GMP) of around Rs 109, suggesting a potential listing gain of nearly 26%.

The Rs 290 crore IPO was entirely a fresh issue of 0.68 crore equity shares priced at Rs 425 per share. The issue received an overwhelming response from investors and was subscribed 188.85 times overall.

The Non-Institutional Investor (NII) category led the subscription activity with 374.58 times demand, while the Retail Individual Investor (RII) portion was subscribed 205.42 times. The Qualified Institutional Buyer (QIB) segment also witnessed strong participation, with the issue subscribed 90.47 times.

Sundae Capital Advisors acted as the book-running lead manager for the issue, while KFin Technologies served as the registrar.

What should investors do now?

According to Shivani Nyati, Head of Wealth at Swastika Investmart, MV Electrosystems’ listing reflects strong investor confidence. However, investors should also evaluate the company’s recent financial performance before making further decisions.

“MV Electrosystems delivered a strong listing with a 22% premium, indicating positive investor sentiment. However, the company reported weak FY26 performance, with revenue declining around 21% year-on-year and a net loss of Rs 12.6 crore. The investment story now depends on improving execution and returning to profitable growth,” Nyati said.

She added that allotted investors can consider booking partial profits while holding the remaining shares with a stop-loss of Rs 470. Fresh investors may wait for consistent improvement in operational performance before taking exposure.

About MV Electrosystems

Founded in 2009, MV Electrosystems designs, develops, assembles, and manufactures electrical and power electronic equipment primarily for railway rolling stock applications.

The company’s product portfolio includes IGBT-based three-phase drive propulsion systems for electric locomotives, switchgear panels for railway coaches and EMUs, cable protection and management systems, and other electrical equipment and sub-systems.

The company operates in a segment supported by India’s railway modernisation push, including broad-gauge electrification, the Make in India initiative, railway network expansion, and rising investments in high-speed rail infrastructure.

While these long-term growth drivers create opportunities for MV Electrosystems, investors will closely watch whether the company can improve profitability and sustain growth momentum in the coming quarters.
