“Must-win” - Paul Merson makes West Ham prediction ahead of Nottingham Forest fixture

Former Arsenal forward Paul Merson is predicting West Ham United to return to winning ways against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

David Moyes’ side play host to the Tricky Trees at the London Stadium, currently sat 18th in the Premier League standings and a point shy of safety after their 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last Sunday.

The Hammers had been in improved form ahead of that game with five points from three games against Everton, Newcastle United and Chelsea in England’s top-flight, but the defeat to Spurs has again heaped pressure on manager Moyes.

Looking ahead to this weekend’s game against 13th placed Forest, Merson, whose career saw him win two top-flight titles and the FA Cup with Arsenal, as well as play 327 league games for the Gunners between 1985 and 1997, has said that despite West Ham’s struggles against rivals Tottenham, they will see off Forest on Saturday, with Merson predicting a 2-0 win.

“This is a must-win game for West Ham. I don't expect West Ham to get relegated,” Merson told Sporskeeda . “But it was a lacklustre performance last weekend against Tottenham. It was one of their biggest games of the season and some of their players didn't treat it like that.

“The Hammers punched above their weight last season. It's important in this league to start well. Look at Brighton, Brentford and Fulham. West Ham haven't started the season well and that has majorly affected their campaign.

“Nottingham Forest got dominated by Manchester City last weekend. I couldn't believe the game ended 1-1. It could have so easily been 7-1 if City had put their chances away. I think West Ham are going to get an extremely important win this weekend”
