Dennis William Sore, 43, is on trial in the Townsville Supreme Court, charged with murdering 49-year-old Samantha Rose Bong at a unit in Pimlico during February 2020.
Mr Sore has pleaded not guilty to the murder.
Crown prosecutor Andrew Walklate alleged that Mr Sore, on the night of her death, called another sister and said he had killed Ms Bong.
Mr Walklate told the court police were called to the unit just after midnight where they found Ms Bong in a pool of blood on the lounge room floor and Mr Sore sitting nearby holding his phone and a large carving knife.
Ms Bong was declared dead at the scene by paramedics and an autopsy found she had been stabbed multiple times.
"[They found] a deep stab wound to the back of the chest, from the back, [and] forwards a deep stab wound to the left lower back," Mr Walklate said.
"Those first two wounds … caused [her] death."
Mr Walklate told the court Ms Bong was also stabbed in her abdomen, the back of her thigh and neck, and was found with a puncture wound to the front of her chest.
He said Ms Bong also had defensive wounds on her arms and blunt force injuries.
He told the court that Mr Sore had asked police officers for a shower and said he thought he might faint.
CCTV footage played in court
The court was played CCTV footage that showed Mr Sore, Ms Bong and the pair's mother, together at the Centenary Hotel in Townsville several hours before her death.
The vision showed Ms Bong dancing with her mother inside the hotel.
The court was also shown CCTV vision from inside a taxi that showed the trio travelling together that night.
The court was shown police photographs taken inside the Pimlico unit the night Ms Bong died.
The photos showed broken crockery and furniture in the hallway and kitchen, as well as blood stains on the couch and bloody footprints in the hallway.
Mr Sore's mother and siblings were expected to give evidence in coming days.
The trial continues on Thursday.
