A man has died following an assault in Islington, north London.
The Metropolitan Police has launched a murder investigation into the death of Ahmed Jama, 50, who died in hospital five days after being found with serious head injuries.
Officers were called to Hungerford Road at around 4am on July 10 following reports of an assault.
Mr Jama was taken to hospital, but was sadly pronounced dead on July 15, despite best efforts of medical staff.
Two women, aged 18 and 19, were arrested by officers on July 12 on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, but have since been bailed while enquiries into Mr Jama’s death continue.
Mr Jama’s next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
Chief Superintendent Jason Stewart, who leads policing in the area, said: "Our thoughts are first and foremost with Ahmed's family and loved ones at this extremely difficult time.
“As enquiries continue, local residents can expect to see a continued police presence in the area over the coming days.
“I would ask anyone with any information, CCTV or doorbell camera footage which could support the investigation to contact us."
Anyone with information, or any footage that may assist the investigation, is urged to contact police on 101, quoting CAD 1063/10Jul.
