Murder probe launched as man, 35, dies in double stabbing in east London

(Alamy/PA) - (Local Library)

A murder investigation has been launched after a man was killed in a double stabbing in east London.

Police were called at around 9am on Friday to reports that a man had been stabbed in Pankhurst Avenue, Silvertown.

They discovered a 35-year-old man with stab wounds in the garden of a property on nearby Rayleigh Road.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, he was sadly pronounced dead on his arrival at hospital.

Another man, in his 20s, was also taken to hospital with multiple stab wounds.

He remains in hospital, where his condition is not believed to be life-threatening.

Two men, aged 27 and 24, and a 25-year-old woman were arrested near the scene on suspicion of murder.

They remain in police custody.

Homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command have launched a murder investigation.

The next-of-kin of the man who was killed have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke, who is leading the investigation, said: “My thoughts remain with the family and loved ones of the man who has died.

“I know that the community will be understandably concerned by the incident. There remains a large police presence in the area, and I would urge anyone with concerns to speak with officers at the scene.

“Three people have been arrested in connection with the stabbing and our enquiries are continuing at pace. I would ask anyone with information or CCTV footage that could assist our investigation to get in touch with police.”

Information can be provided by calling police on 101, quoting CAD 1868/5JUN or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
