Merseyside Police have confirmed that they have launched a domestic murder investigation following the death of a woman in Haydock.
At 9.05am on Wednesday, August 31, the police were contacted following concern for the safety of a woman at a property in Piele Road.
Paramedics attended and found the woman, in her 40s, inside the property. She was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination will be carried out to establish the cause of death.
