Cops raced to the property on Nursery Hall in the South Ayrshire town after the alarm was raised at around 10.15am on Monday.
A 41-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following a post-mortem, investigators are now treating her death as murder.
Pictures taken from the scene on Monday showed a large area of the street cordoned off by officers with uniformed cops standing guard.
Detective Chief Inspector Peter Sharp said: “An extensive investigation is underway, including officers carrying out door-to-door enquiries.
“Officers are also working to find out the last time the deceased was seen and the circumstances leading up to her death.
“Anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, should contact us immediately. If you were in the area over the weekend and have dash-cam or private CCTV footage that could assist then please get in touch.
“It is important that we find out more about what has happened as soon as we can and I would like to reassure the community that officers are working to trace whoever is responsible.
"Additional police patrols are in the area and members of the public are encouraged to speak to a police officer if they have any concerns.”
