A murder investigation has been launched after a 19-year-old man was stabbed to death in southeast London.
Officers were called to Rye Lane, near the junction of Heaton Road in Peckham Rye, just after 7pm on Saturday, following reports of an assault.
A man received treatment from police and the London Ambulance Service at the scene, before being transferred to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The victim’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
A post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
No arrests have been made at this early stage.
Superintendent Gabriel Cameron said: “No one should lose their life because of knife crime. This morning, family and friends are waking up without their loved one. Our thoughts are with them at this incredibly difficult time.
“We understand the impact a crime like this has on the community and you can expect to see an increased police presence in the area. If you are a local resident, please do share any concerns with our officers on the ground.
“In the meantime, our detectives are working meticulously to identify those responsible, and piece together what happened."
Police are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who was near to Rye Lane on Saturday between 6.30pm and 7.30pm.
