A man has been charged with murder over a two-year-old public shooting allegedly driven by a personal disagreement between him and the victim.
Mohammad Chami, 40, was shot to death in Merrylands, in western Sydney, on March 3, 2022, while another man was wounded in the attack.
More than two years later, NSW Police have arrested a 41-year-old man in the southern suburb of Mascot on Wednesday morning and charged him with Mr Chami's murder.
Homicide Squad commander Danny Doherty said a hard-fought investigation had led to charges being laid and answers for the community.
"This alleged murder was a brazen public-place shooting resulting in the death of one man, the wounding of another and chaos in the streets of Sydney," Detective Superintendent Doherty said on Wednesday.
"But this shooting was not driven by drugs or money … this shooting was the direct result of a personal disagreement between two men which resulted in death and terror."
Emergency services were called to a local service station after reports of a shooting, arriving to find a 39-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his buttocks.
As he was being treated by paramedics, police found Mr Chami's body about 700m away at a different intersection.
Police allege the 41-year-old was directly involved in the shooting murder and the wounding of the other man.
He was charged with murder, shooting with intent to murder, possessing a pistol and possessing a firearm in contravention of a prohibition order.
The man was refused bail and was set to face Downing Centre Local Court later on Wednesday.
