Murder charge after 50-year-old man dies following alleged assault in Sidcup

Stuart Tickner died after an incident in south-east London (Handout/PA) -

A 36-year-old man has been charged with murder following an alleged assault outside a pub in southeast London.

Stuart Tickner, 50, suffered head injuries in the incident in Sidcup on Monday, May 25.

Officers were called to the scene on Station Road at around 1am where they found Mr Tickner unconscious.

He was rushed to hospital, where he died five days later.

His family are being supported by specially-trained officers.

On Sunday, Liam Burgess, 36, of Harefield, was charged with murder and possession of a weapon in a public place.

Debbie Sinclair, a close friend of Mr Tickner, set up a Gofundme page to cover his funeral costs.

At the time of writing, the page had received over £9,000 in donations.

Paying tribute to her friend, she wrote: “Stuart was full of life and the one of the kindest people I have ever met - he made friends wherever he went and would always help anyone out.

“His loss is devastating for his mother, daughter and nephews along with his friends of which he had so many. He will be missed forever.”

Mr Burgess appeared at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Monday, June 22.

Burgess has been remanded in custody, ahead of an appearance at the Old Bailey on Wednesday, June 24.
