Murder accused arrested after brief exchange of fire with police in Delhi's Welcome

New Delhi: A man wanted in 7 criminal cases, including 2 cases of murder was arrested after a brief exchange of fire in Welcome on Saturday. The accused sustained a gunshot injury in a retaliatory police fire on his right leg. One 7.65 mm pistol with 2 live rounds was recovered from him.

Delhi Police officials said that the accused Imran Kala (18) resided at Janta Majdoor Colony, Welcome.

According to police officials, he was found involved in 7 criminal cases including 2 cases of murder, 2 cases of attempt to murder, one case of robbery, one case of snatching and one case of sodomy (POCSO). 

Delhi police said, "Imran Kala is a desperate criminal who had come out on bail in a murder case about 2 weeks ago. 

Information was received that he would be coming to Jheel Wala Park, Welcome to meet an associate and would be carrying a gun. At about 12:30 pm on June 8, the police team spotted Imran in the park. When he saw the police team he tried to run away. When challenged, he opened fire at the police party and fired 2 rounds in quick succession. 

Fortunately, no police personnel were hurt." Delhi Police further said that in retaliatory police fire, Imran sustained a bullet injury on his right leg. He fell and was apprehended.

Police officials further said that he was taken to Jag Pravesh Hospital, from where he was referred to GTB Hospital, where he is being treated for his wounds.

A case under relevant sections is being registered in this regard. The accused is being interrogated.
