King Charles Coronation 'disgusting' cover up of UK living crisis, slams model in viral post

Model and activist Munroe Bergdorf branded the timing of King Charles III's Coronation "disgusting" and begged the world not to be fooled by the event.

The King and Queen Camilla's Coronation, which is estimated to have cost an eye-watering £100million, takes place on Saturday, May 6.

Contributing editor at British Vogue Munroe slammed the 'pageantry' amid the UK's cost of living crisis.

She shared a statement on Instagram, which has been shared thousands of times.

"Dear rest of the world, Don't be fooled by any propaganda you see coming out of the UK this weekend. The mood here is not jubilant, it is sour," she said.

"England is a fascist nightmare, where there are more food banks than branches of McDonalds. We don't want pageantry, we want affordable food, and rent, and bills.

"The timing of this coronation, with all its gold and bejewelled opulence, couldn't be more distasteful and sickening. It's unjustifiable and it's unwanted.

"If we're asking God to save anyone it should be the 14.4 million people living in poverty, not the King."

The 35-year-old took to the caption to explain how it would have been a 'gesture of kindness/true leadership/the right thing to do' for the King to have used '£100m of the £200m he inherited (tax free) from The Queen, to fund his coronation party.'

King Charles III is estimated to have a net worth of £1.8billion.

"Instead he is now worth £2bn and asking people who can barely keep the lights/heating on, to foot the bill via their taxes and pledge their allegiance to him whilst he’s riding in a golden carriage and wearing jewels from colonised nations. Baffled," she wrote.

"Over 14.4 million people in the UK can’t afford to eat every day. 25% of London is in poverty. 4 million children are experiencing food poverty."

She questioned: "Whether you’re pro or anti monarchy, I don’t understand how in the midst of a cost of living crisis, national worker strikes, soaring inflation, escalating poverty and food bank usage, that anyone would think taxing the poor for an aristo party is anything but a gauche, out of touch and quite frankly obscene display of wealth and power, during an increasingly desperate time for so many."

The majority of her followers agreed with the sentiment and took to the comment section to praise her.

Actor Jameela Jamil wrote: "You're so f**king great," while Love Island's Brett Staniland said: "This weekend is gonna be a combination of Hunger Games and Don’t Look Up."

As it's a state event, the UK government will be paying for King Charles III's Coronation, unlike royal weddings. Essentially, this means the Coronation will be funded by the taxpayer.
