Mumbai: Sheena Bora birth certificate shown to court is fake, says Indrani Mukerjea

MUMBAI: Accused in the murder of her daughter Sheena Bora, Indrani Mukerjea submitted before the special trial court on Wednesday that the victim’s purported birth certificate that was retrieved from Rahul Mukerjea and produced by the investigating agency was possibly fake. Indrani made submissions in person and said it was a photocopy and changes seemed to have been made to it.

Last week Sheena’s fiance Rahul Mukerjea deposed as the 69th prosecution witness and said that he had handed over Sheena’s two birth certificates one where Indrani and her former partner were shown as her parents and another where her grandparents were shown as her parents to the police. A prosecution plea seeking for the two certificates and Sheena’s other documents to be taken on record was opposed by Indrani, accused Peter Mukerjea’s lawyer Manjula Rao and Sanjeev Khanna’s lawyer Niranjan Mundargi. Indrani submitted that she had leanrt there is no record in the Guwahati municipal corporation that the birth certificate was issued in 2002.

Special public prosecutor Manoj Chaladan said that birth certificates are public documents and there is no need to examine the person concerned.

Indrani urged the court to allow her to examine Rahul as her lawyer was busy.
