The India Meteorological Department has issued a Red Alert for Mumbai, warning of moderate to intense spells of rain over the next few hours, while the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has urged residents to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary. Authorities have also warned of a 4.19-metre high tide expected in the afternoon.
According to the IMD's nowcast warning issued at 7:00 am IST on July 5, moderate to intense rainfall is very likely at isolated places in Mumbai and Raigad over the next three hours. The weather department advised people to take necessary precautions.
The BMC, in a post on X, said the IMD has issued a Red Alert for the Greater Mumbai region for Sunday, July 5, 2026, and has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across the city.
