Mumbai: The Mumbai crime branch has successfully located a 35-year-old man who is suspected of making a phone call to the police control room, alerting them about a potential threat to the life of industrialist Ratan Tata. The man, who holds an MBA degree, has been found to be suffering from a mental illness.
During the course of the investigation, the police discovered that the anonymous caller has schizophrenia. The caller had asked the police to enhance Ratan Tata's security, warning that if they failed to do so, he would meet the same fate as former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry, who died in a car crash on September 4, 2022.
Upon receiving the call, the Mumbai Police immediately went into full alert mode. A special team was assigned to ensure the personal security of Ratan Tata, while another team worked on gathering information about the caller. Using technical support and assistance from a telecom service provider, the police were able to track down the location of the caller in Karnataka. It was revealed that he was a resident of Pune.
As the police reached the caller's Pune residence, they discovered that he had been missing for the last five days. His wife had filed a complaint at the Bhosari police station in the city. After questioning the caller's family, the police learned that he suffers from schizophrenia and had taken the phone used to make the threat call without informing its owner. The caller had contacted the control room of the Mumbai Police and threatened Ratan Tata.
Considering that the caller was battling schizophrenia, the police decided not to pursue legal action against him. It was also revealed that the caller had an MBA in finance and had studied engineering.
The Mumbai crime branch has successfully resolved the case, ensuring the safety of Ratan Tata. The incident highlights the importance of mental health awareness and the need for support and treatment for individuals facing such challenges. (PTI)
