The man, arrested for murdering his live-in partner, chopping up her remains, and boiling them in a pressure cooker in Thane of Maharashtra, is suspected to have poisoned her first by giving her pesticides, the local police have said.
Manoj Sane, 56, was arrested on June 7 for allegedly killing his live-in partner Saraswati Vaidya, 32. They lived in an apartment on the seventh floor of a residential building at Geeta Nagar in Mira Road, Thane district. Sane is currently in police custody till June 16.
The police got to know about the incident after the neighbours complained of odour from the apartment. “Manoj chopped Saraswati’s body into 20 pieces, boiled them, and put them into plastic bags. Chats and call records of the accused and victim are being examined,” a police officer said.
The DNA samples of Vaidya and her family members had been collected on June 12 and Vaidya’s remains were given to her sister to perform the last rites. Sane allegedly told the police that he had married Vaidya in a temple but they did not register the marriage.
According to sources, Vaidya studied up to Class 10 in a school for orphans in the Ahmednagar district of western Maharashtra and came to Mumbai to reside with her relatives after turning 18. She met Sane in 2014 and moved to the the flat three years ago, sources said.
There is no name plate on the flat’s door and a police officer said there wasn’t much furniture. The police is currently interrogating the neighbours and relatives.
