MUMBAI: A 27-year-old labourer who abused a police constable when woken up at a CSMT platform was convicted and sentenced to one year seven months' imprisonment Monday. Rameshwar Rathod refused to leave the platform when told to and instead, abused the cops and said, "Does this platform belong to your father... I will sleep here if I want to... do whatever you want."
Five witnesses, including the constable, deposed. The court said evidence of the prosecution witnesses, even though they were cops, could be safely relied upon. The accused was arrested in November 2020. The court sentenced him to the time he already spent in prison. "The evidence of the prosecution witnesses appears to be voluntary and reliable. No enmity has been brought on record between the accused and police witnesses. Therefore, there is no possibility of false implication. The prosecution has proved that the accused used criminal force against the informant (cop)," judge R K Kshirsagar said.
