Mumbai: Hawker gropes woman on train, arrested

MUMBAI: A hawker was arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) on Monday night for groping a student in a running Central Railway local last week. The 21-year-old woman summoned courage to approach the police five days after the incident on getting support from her friends.

The complainant studies nursing. The incident occurred on September 14. She was travelling during morning peak hour in the second-class ladies compartment of an Up local. The hawker boarded the compartment at Nahur station to sell hair accessories and earrings. The woman felt someone touch her inappropriately. She looked around and spotted the hawker in the compartment. But she gave him benefit of doubt. A little while later, she felt him grope her again.

On Monday night, her family accompanied her to the Kurla GRP chowky where her statement was recorded and a case of molestation was registered.
