Mumbai: Angola man conceals 1.5 kg heroin in stomach

MUMBAI: A citizen of Angola, who smuggled 1.5 kg of heroin worth around Rs 10.45 crore concealed in his stomach, was arrested by the Customs on Thursday.

This is the third time in a month that a national of Angola is being held for smuggling drugs in the country. In the latest case, the Air Intelligence Unit of Customs on July 31 intercepted Nelo Ndabo, who arrived by Ethiopian Airlines from Angolia's capital of Addis Ababa at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai.

"During preliminary interrogation, the accused voluntarily informed us that he had swollen drug capsules and was feeling uneasy with extreme abdominal pain. He said he had not been to toilet for 25 to 20 hours," said an official. Nelo was admitted to the JJ Hospital and with medical assistance, he purged 127 capsules between August 2 and 3, which contained white powder purported to be heroin, the official said.

According to officials, Nelo told them that he knew carrying drugs in his stomach was risky but said he did so for monetary considerations.
