Mumbai: Activists ask govt to obey SC order on Aarey Colony

MUMBAI: After the latest Supreme Court directive that no trees should be cut at Aarey Colony until further hearing, the green activists held a massive 'Save Aarey Forest' protest demonstration at Picnic Point on Sunday morning, which was attended by local tribals, environmental NGOs, and political parties such as the AAP and VBA, amid police bandobast, reports Vijay Singh

Many demonstrators tied 'friendship bands' to one another as Sunday also marked Friendship Day, and promised to continue to demonstrate in order to pressurise the government to shift the Metro-3 car shed to Kanjur site. Among the over 1,000 activists were members of the Bombay Catholic Sabha, Vanashakti, Save Aarey Conservation Group, and several individuals who want to save the wildlife biodiversity.
