May the 4th, also known as Star Wars Day, has one father so excited he wants to name his baby after a popular character from the infamous film franchise. The expectant mother of the child, however, is not so enamoured with the name her husband wants.
A woman took to popular forum Reddit to discuss the "conundrum" with her partner as he wants to honour their incoming child with the name of a character from the global phenomenon after they already named their eldest son after a Lord of the Rings character, reports the Mirror.
But the idea of naming the newborn after the movies' most famous villain, Darth Vader, is not resonating with the mother. That is, of course, if the baby is born a boy as she revealed they have a potential name for a girl is already locked in.
The father is keen to call the newborn boy 'Anakin' after the character of Anakin Skywalker, also known as Darth Vader.
She said on Reddit: "We have a girl's name picked out, we are torn on boys names.
"We named our older son Rowan because we wanted something a little less common without being totally unheard of, which brings us to our current conundrum. I really like the name Maxwell although I'm slightly worried it, and other Max variations, are getting too popular.
"My husband loves the name Anakin.
"I don't mind the name itself, it's what it's connected to that bothers me. I feel like our poor kid would go through his whole life hearing how he is named after Darth Vader."
The mother admitted she isn't a "huge Star Wars buff" but her husband's retort is he feels the same about Lord of the Rings.
"He just really likes the sound of the name. I don't know what to do here," she added as she sought help and advice from the community online.
One Star Wars fan admitted even he wouldn't chose it. They responded: "Anakin, a boy nick named Ani? Don't do it.
"I'm a massive Star Wars fan and I think it's a terrible named for a kid. What about Luke instead, not super common yet still Star Wars related?"
Another user told of being called by a similar name, adding: "My name is Annakah (pronounced phonetically-- anna+kuh) and even with a version like that, I hear almost every day at my retail job 'Oh, like Star Wars?' or a lame joke about the force.
"My advice? Skip the name. Other compromise names like mine will just end in the same references/jokes, unless Star Wars all of a sudden loses its popularity, which I doubt will happen."
Another said: "I feel you, I like the name Anakin as well. Unfortunately, it's just a bad idea.
"The name was created for Star Wars. Its only connection is to Star Wars. It's not just frequently known to come from Star Wars, it is literally only from Star Wars."
One more user added: "My nine-year-old cousin is named Anakin and I still think it's terrible. His nickname is Annie and I don't like that either.
"That said, he is a thriving smart little boy with lots of friends and his name hasn't held him back at all.
"If you both don't agree with the name you shouldn't use it regardless. I would be a little embarrassed to tell people I named my kid Anakin but to each their own!"
